Today as I was walking up to the library materials drop box, I saw these boxes of National Geographics with a free sign. I don't think the library put them there, so maybe someone "dumped" them thinking literary minded folks would take some. I don't know, but I thought it was pretty cool.

Free Box Boats
Pin It Now!
My dear friend, Meghan, who contributes quite a bit to Free Box the Magazine had been telling me all of the nautical themed free boxes she has come across. In fact, I randomly bumped into her today and the topic came up in conversation, so I thought it was very amusing when I espied this miniature boats in a free box today.

Free Box Furniture Weekend
Pin It Now!
This past weekend was beautiful and I couldn't help but notice that Portlanders decided to take advantage of the sunshine and clean out some cobwebs, mainly in the form of furniture.
Brandon and myself found this free pile just a block down the road from our residence in SE:
Later that evening Brandon went for a jog and came home with a lovely wicker chair:
He decided to temporarily use it for his office chair, but now it's in its rightful location out on the porch and I have to say I love it because we were in desperate need of a chair for the porch.
On Sundays I've been trying to go for long walks. I was just outside Laurelhurst Park when I saw a woman thoroughly examine a very nice bookshelf, which she then determined was worth having a loaded it up in her car.
Much later in my walk I came upon this somewhat shiny, yet forlorn looking rocking chair on a corner just down the road from People's Coop.
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and perhaps acquired a new piece of furniture!

Issue 12, Collections
Pin It Now!
Yes, Issue 12 is finished and ready for distribution. It is entitled "Collections" because it features collections of items found in one free box, like the box of tiles I saw today, or found over the years in many free boxes and it has now turned into your very own personal collection.
I hope one finds a free box near you!

Greetings From Free Box the Magazine
Pin It Now!
I saved this postcard from a somewhat damp free box I came across this morning. I think the moisture was just from fog and dew, but perhaps rain. You never know. Anyway, I thought it was too groovy to pass up. I will let you decide:

Martin Luther King, Jr. day Free Box
Pin It Now!
Martin Luther King, jr. was a huge advocate of freedom as I'm sure many of you know. When I came upon a couple of amazing finds today, I could feel that freedom today more so than others. And I just wanted to mention the amazing freedom I feel and share with other people who practice the free box philosophy.
Thank you!
I would also like to note that with the lack of rain Portland has received this January and the amount of sunny, albeit chilly, days I believe that it's been a record free boxing finding winter, at least for me.
As I was biking home from yoga this beautiful morning I came upon this free box and I almost couldn't contain my excitement. Here's why:
Totally creepy and adorable at the same time:) I absolutely love it.
Hearts,
Bece

Happy 2013!
Pin It Now!
So my b-day is actually January 1st. I decided to follow Cory's b-day idea and do as much free stuff as I could that would also be relaxing.
I went to free yoga at the Bhaktishop. Hooray!
Brandon and myself then biked downtown and I had a delicious raw meal at Prassad, free, courtesy of Brandon. What a sweet guy :)
I then went to Movie Madness to get a free b-day rental. Awesome!
And to top it off I scheduled my free sauna/soak at Common Ground Wellness Center, which was so relaxing!
Along our bike path to Prassad was this conceptual free box, which I had heard about and my friend sent me a pic, but I had personally never witnessed. It was pretty sweet. It's on the East Bank Esplanade. Somebody has spray painted a "free box" right in the middle of the path. Here's a photo:
I placed a copy of the zine on the free box and I am happy to report that when I biked home, it was gone :)
Also while biking home I came upon my first actual free box of 2013.
Happy Free Boxing ~
